Betty Jean Newton Etling
Betty
Jean Newton Etling was born on December 12, 1920 in Akron,
Ohio to Arthur Wellington Newton and Elsie M. Newton [Piens]. Betty graduated from Kenmore High School in
Akron, Ohio on June 15th, 1938.
Betty lived on Wayne Knolls Farm for
over 50 years, raising four children and helped her husband Harold run the
family farm, which included a wide array of different livestock; however Black
Aberdeen Angus were the main focus.
Several championship Angus came from the farm, the most notable being
“Shorty”, a Supreme Campion in 1949 [highest rank in the national at the time]. She enjoyed traveling to different events
related to the Angus Association, many where in Chicago where she was a member
of the Union League Club.
September 5th, 1942 Harold
Etling married Betty Jean Newton in Kentucky; the pair remained united for 43
years until Harold passed away at the age of 85. The couple had four children over a seven
year span. Terry Douglas Etling was born
January 24th, 1943. Harold
Allen Etling was born September 29th, 1944. Melissa Ann Etling Moomaw was born on October
4th, 1948 and is the first of two daughters. Christine Marie Etling Wagner is the youngest
for the four children and was born on the 6th of January 1950.
Betty passed away at her home of natural causes on February 18,
2009 and was laid to rest next to her
husband in St. Michael’s Cemetery, southeast of Marshallville Ohio.
